Welcome to Kerry Camogie....

Camogie was revived in Kerry in 2006, after a former successful period during the 1960’s and 1970’s. Mary O'Connor, Munster Development Officer and now National Director of Camogie Development was instrumental in this.

There are currently 6 registered clubs in the county, Causeway, Cillard, Tralee Parnells, Killarney and Clanmaurice. There are currently over 400 women and girls in Kerry playing regularly, both in their clubs and schools.

At inter county level Kerry fields 4 teams, U14, U16, Minor and Adult. Last year Kerry won Division 4 of Irish Daily Star National Camogie League along with the Munster Junior Championship. This year Kerry will be competing in Division 3 of the National League and in the All Ireland Junior Championship.

WEEKLY NEWS 11/7/2016

It has been a busy few weeks for camogie in Kerry. Our u16 county team began their All Ireland championship campaign under the management of Mike Enright, Sarah Leahy and Eimear O Mahony. The u16's made the trip to Birr to begin their campaign against Cavan. Unfortunately Kerry lost the game on a score of Kerry 3-2 to Cavan's 4-15. Next up Kerry played Armagh again in Birr. This was a tough game for Kerry against an excellent Armagh team who were physically that bit stronger than Kerry, the final score was Kerry 1-4 Armagh 6-18. This Sunday the 17th of July Kerry travel to Athy to play Kildare at 2:30pm in their 3rd group game.

On the senior front Kerry have continued their Premier Junior campaign. On the 26th of July Kerry made the trip to Parnells GAA club in Dublin to play Dublin in their second group game. In a fantastic game of camogie Kerry showed great heart and no little skill to defeat Dublin on a score of Kerry 0-12 Dublin 0-11. This was a fantastic performance by the whole squad and great credit must also go to the management team of Pete Young, Gary O Brien and Stephen Goggin to enable the players to deliver such a performance. Last Sunday Kerry made the long trip to Ballymacnab to take on Armagh. Armagh have been having a great year and are currently undefeated in both league and championship also Capturing the Div 3 National League title. Kerry were under no illusions as to how difficult an assignment this would be. With the step up to Premier Junior this year preparations have also had to improve and the county board have not been found wanting. With the huge fundraising efforts carried out by the Kerry Camogie Board the squad and management were able to travel up the day before and stay overnight. This allowed the team to take to the field fresh and give the best account of themselves. This the girls duly did and in a seesaw battle which was only decided in the last 10 mins Armagh just came out on top on a scoreline of Armagh 2-13 to Kerry's 1-10. Next up for the seniors will be Westmeath in Abbeydorney this Sunday the 17th at 2:30pm.

WEEKLY NEWS 24/6/2016

A huge congratulations to Cillard camogie club who won the Division 4 title in the John West Féile na nGael. In total Cillard played 3 games in the group stages and accounted for Donard the Glin, Tramore and Clonea in the group stages. In the quarter final they defeated Lacken of Cavan, next up was a semi against Drom and Inch of Tipp but the Cillard girls put in a strong performance to win comfortably. That victory qualified them for the final where they faced Eglish of Tyrone. In a tightly contested final Cillard won out on a score line of 2-7 to 2-4.

The Kerry ladies began their Premier Junior All Ireland camogie campaign last Sunday in Austin Stacks Park Tralee against Roscommon. In an entertaining affair Kerry lost out on a score line of 1-12 to 0-10. While this was not the result that the management team would have wanted to begin their championship campaign with there were a number of encouraging aspects to the display. Next up for the team is a trip to face Dublin on Sunday the 26th of June at 1:30pm in Parnells GAA in Coolock.
